Technology Literacy and the MySpace Generation

I think that there should be some standards as to what kids are expected to know about technology. I tend to agree with what the students said about the filtered Internet access available at most schools. Students, once given the tools, should be given the opportunity to decide for themselves what is and is not relevant for their purposes.
I think that the new NET Standards are interesting in that they are focusing more on the creative aspects of technology and not merely on the knowledge of how the operating system works. Kids should be encouraged to explore a wider variety of uses for things not just the intended use. There are so many programs that have wide applications but children are never allowed to explore them.
